Recipes?

People have been asking a lot lately if we have recipes on this blog...the answer is no.
This blog is basically for people who are on the go and need a quick snack that doesn't take a lot of time to prepare...

...or this blog is for those who are snackaholics!

If anyone has any recipes that are quick and easy, and go along with the same type of theme as the post, then by all means...please leave it in the comments section.

Thanks....let me know if you have any questions - JenN

Joe Joe's!

Introducing....Joe Joe's!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Only available at Trader Joe's!

A delicious vegan cookie. The vanilla ones are my favorite, but they also have chocolate on chocolate and chocolate with vanilla creme. They are all vegan and they are all amazing!

Something else that is amazing...you can use them for pie crust! Just mash up the cookies...add a little bit of vegan earth balance butter...spread in a pie pan...bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes...then add whatever brings you pleasure.
I like to add fruit...then I bake for another 15-20 minutes. It's a quick and easy dessert.

If you try it...let me know what you think. - JenN

vegan chocolate mousse!

i was feeling a little hungry today as i was driving home from spending the weekend in philadelphia and was hankering for a chocolately treat. i was passing through maple shade, nj and spotted a whole foods so i decided to pop in and grab a quick snack. i was walking by one of the fridges and behold! there it was before me, vegan chocolate mousse! though not vegan myself, i do love vegan desserts and was really excited to see one of my favorite things offered in a vegan option. i slapped down $4 and walked away with the yummy chocolately treat i had been craving. i was very pleased, and while the overall flavor was a little on the "soyish" side, which is something i'm not always a fan of for my personal taste, it wasn't overpowering (which is my complaint with some products) and on the whole, the mousse was quite tasty. it definately gets my seal of approval! next time you're at a whole foods, take a look in the dessert case and grab some for yourself and drop us a line on what you think!

cereal or snack?

BOTH!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Panda Puffs! Delicious! Great with soy milk or just plain by the handful. My dogs even like them as treats! They are available at most health food stores and even some regular grocery stores are getting in on this. They range from 2 to 3 bucks per box....and let me tell you...worth every penny!

Bonus - When you buy EnvroKidz cereal 1% of all profit goes to the EnviroFund which gives money towards endangered species and environments.

So go check them out. They have other great vegan cereals as well, but this is by far my favorite.

As always...let us know what you think - JenN

Snapea Crisps

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Snapea Crisps by Snack Salad.

These tasty little treats come in two flavors, original and caesar. The original is vegan and the caesar is vegetarian. Being vegan, I have only had the original, but they are delicious. Another vegan treat that is hard to put down once you open the bag.
Check out Snack Salads website and show them some love.

They have some new products coming out so keep your eyes open.

Vegan Salt and Vinegar Potato Chips!!!

Can you believe it?? Yep, that's right! We said VEGAN Salt and Vinegar Potato Chips! They are made by the Cape Cod Company and are mighty tasty. In fact, we think they are better than any non-vegan s&v chips we've ever had!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The ingredients only consist of...Potatoes, Canola Oil, Maltodextrin, Sodium Diacetate, Vinegar Solids and Sea Salt. AMAZING! They are available at most grocery stores and you can buy in bulk, along with other cape cod products on their website www.capecodchips.com.
The only thing wrong with these chips is...once you start on a bag...it's hard to stop before they are all gone!

Let us know what you think - Thanks - Jenn and Kate

Kaya's Kitchen...

Kaya's Kitchen...Fine Vegetarian Cuisine
817 Belmar Plaza
Belmar, NJ
www.kayaskitchennj.com

Kaya's Kitchen is a great vegan restaurant that does offer the choice of organic dairy cheese if you prefer. On our trip there we chose everything vegan. We had the Summer Salad, Chili, Pizza Burger, a Natural Soda - Regular flavor, and for dessert we had chocolate mint pie. Everything was FANTASTIC...well mostly. The Natural Soda and the Cucumber dressing left something to be desired. Everything else was so fantastic that we even took some chili home. It actually may be the best vegan chili I've ever had!

The location is a little remote and took a little driving around to find it tucked away in the midst of a little strip mall. It is totally worth it though, and I can't wait for my next visit there. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and with vegan goodness on the menu such as Shepard's Pie, BBQ Soy Drumsticks, and Vegan Beef Enchiladas, this place has something for every vegan craving.

If you stop by Kaya's Kitchen, tell them we said hi, and drop us a line to let us know what you think. Thanks - Jenn and Kate.

Sweet and Sara

If these marshmallow treats look too good to be true, they aren't! They are delicious and 100% vegan, which we think is completely amazing! Made by Sweet and Sara (http://www.sweetandsara.com/), a vegan owned bakery out of Queens, NY they are available at several online stores, as well as at select WholeFoods stores in the NY, NJ, CT area. S&S have won several awards for their tasty treats, including 2006 product of the year from VegNews, and once we got a taste of them, it wasn't hard to see why. We sampled the peanut butter s'mores and the regular marshmallows and they tasted sooooooooo yummy! We picked them up at WholeFoods, and while they were a little bit on the pricey side ($4.99 for the s'mores and $6.99 for and 8.5 oz container of approx 14 marshmallows), the great taste and high quality-and support of a vegan company- made them well worth the extra loot. Now that we've found these little treasures, we want to try making our own treats and s'mores with the plain marshmallows-rice krispy treats anyone?-and we will most definately report on that. Who said veggies can't have super yummy treats?!? Check these out, you won't be sorry!

snacks!

in addition to veggie eateries, we have decided that we will also include some of our favorite foods, snacks, and other helpful things in this blog too. and being that we both LOOOOVE snacks, we're going to start featuring a snack of the week. it is a misconception that if you are vegetarian or vegan that there are less snacks to choose from or all you can eat is just fruit and nuts. sure, many things are off limits, but who really wants to eat gross and fatty junk food anyway? there are many healthy and yummy options (and some not quite as healthy!) available for all us veggies out there, and for this week, we bring you....

Robert's American Gourmet (http://www.robscape.com/) makes many snacks that are delicious and downright habit forming, and Vegan Booty is no exception! you can find this at most health food stores, whole foods, and even some regular grocery stores, but be warned, once you open the bag, you will have a hard time putting it down!

stay tuned for more snacks and info! thanks for reading!

hello!

eat this is the brain child of 2 friends, one vegetarian and one vegan- kate and jenn- who want to make life a little easier for all the vegetarians and vegans out there who are looking for good restuarants and eateries. it has unfortunately been our experience that information and accurate, easy to navigate directions to the good veggie spots is lacking, even in the internet age, so our mission is to fix that. its simple really, we hear of a place, we find it and take the guess work out of directions, eat there and review our experience (including friendly-ness of the atomosphere and knowledgeability of the staff) and post the results here for you so you can follow us there! we are from the north jersey area so we will be exploring eateries around us to start, but would love to branch out and find good spots in other areas. and of course, we welcome any suggestions for places we should visit so don't be shy! our first review is soon to come, so be sure to check it out!-kate
